No dieting, no aerobics, no jogging required!

Put your garbage can on a diet—it’s easy and it makes sense (dollars and cents, too).

You can make a big difference just by making a few changes in the way you do things and the products you use.

Waste reduction means ending up with less to dispose of--it doesn't mean going without.

In Canada, we throw out more per person that the citizens of any other country in the world. Each of us produces 1.7 kg of waste each day—roughly our own body weight in garbage every month.

pRRRdy Says...Go Green in 2006

12 Green New Year's Resolutions

  1. I promise to stop using throwaways-disposable diapers, disposable pens, disposable batteries, disposable lighters, disposable razors, and all the rest.
  2. I promise, whenever possible, to leave the bag behind when I buy something.
  3. I promise to recycle my cans, bottles, jars, newspapers, other paper, plastic containers made from #1, 2, 4,and 5 plastics, plastic bags and cardboard. Please note: Christmas wrapping paper is NOT recyclable.
  4. I promise to compost my kitchen scraps, garden wastes, and dead leaves.
  5. I promise to pick up at least some of the litter I see on the sidewalk and street each day.
  6. I promise to use non-toxic alternatives to chemical cleaners and pesticides.
  7. I promise to take my household hazardous wastes-old paints, pharmaceuticals, oil-to the local collection depots.
  8. I promise to buy products and packages that contain recycled materials
  9. I promise to leave overpackaged products sitting on the shelf, and to ask the store manager to replace these with low-packaged items.
  10. I promise to repair broken items rather than throwing then out or look at agencies who will accept them.
  11. I promise to teach a friend to recycle and compost.
  12. I promise to do and outdoor activity with friends and family and enjoy and appreciate the natural environment.

If we each do a little, it will amount to a lot in the preservation of our environment.
